EpicWe are a week away from the alleged launch of Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2, or Season 12, if youâre adding up all the ones from the old map as well. And so far there have been zero in-game clues over the past four months about whatâs coming next.
Finally, finally, a few pieces may be starting to come together in terms of potential hints, albeit ones pulled from leaks, rather than anything in the game just yet. Though if thereâs any sort of update today, keep an eye out, as thereâs just a single week to go until the February 20 launch date, so now would be the time for something to pop up.
There seems to be a growing consensus based on a few different leaks that gold is going to be playing a significant role in Chapter 2, Season. Not the color, the material.
The first clue was the skin you see above, which was a datamined skin for âOroâ (which means gold in Spanish), a legendary skin with the description âGolden Treasure, an Eternal Obsession.â Given that this leak happened literally a month ago on January 15, I didnât think much of it at the time, as I figured there was still a month to go and we might see it released before seasonâs end. That did not happen, and it now it seems pretty clear that Oro is a Season 2 skin, possibly even the level 100 battle pass skin.

EpicI know some people have been talking about King Midas, the legendary figure who touched things and turned them into gold, but from what Oro is wearing, I think he looks more like heâs wearing the remnants of Knight/Conquistador armor, you know, the types of folks that might be searching for a lost, legendary city of gold. Before maybe they died and were turned into a gold skeleton god king?
But thatâs only the first half of the leak, and the second half is more recent.

Lucas7YoshiLeaker Lucas has found a series of props that are solid gold versions of existing objects in the game. There is a theory that over this last week here, these objects will start appearing in the âEyelandâ island in the middle of the map with that entire area slowly turning into gold. It seems possible that if thereâs some sort of gold conversion going on there, we might wake up and Season 2 gives us a giant gold castle for Oro on that island at launch, or something like that.

EpicThe final stage of this theory is that gold might not just be the theme of the season with undead kings and lost cities, but it might actually prove to be a new type of material in Fortnite, joining wood, stone and metal. What exactly the purpose of gold would be (stronger walls? Gold-for-guns trades during games?) is unclear, as well as how rare it might be to find in the wild. But given that weâve had the same three materials forever, I could theoretically see Epic doing something like this to shake things up.
I am hesitant to even publish this post as I feel like we might see something happen today that lends further credence to this theory with a week left, but if so, check back here for updates.
